Many of our customers are in the business of campervan conversions, so we’re often asked which CNC router is best for this type of job.
A CNC router is a computer-controlled machine that can cut, shape, drill, and engrave various materials with precision and speed. Here are some factors to consider when choosing the best CNC router for camper van conversions.
Project Size and Complexity
Depending on the size and complexity of your campervan project, you may need a CNC router with a larger or smaller bed size, more or less power, and more or fewer features. For example, if you want to cut full-size plywood sheets for your van’s walls, floors, and cabinets, you may need a CNC router with a bed size of at least 1200mm x 2400mm. Most of our CNC machines, such as our Pro Range, have large beds to facilitate full board cuts, but we also offer the CKJ-R12, which has a half-sized bed. If you’re regularly doing campervan conversations which require tool changes, you may need a CNC router with an automatic tool changer (ATC) such as the CKJ-L8 that can switch between different router bits without manual intervention.
Budget and Quality
CNC routers can vary widely in price and quality. You may be tempted to go for the cheapest option, but that could compromise the quality and durability of your machine and your project. On the other hand, you may not need to spend a fortune on a high-end machine if you’re only doing occasional or hobby projects. It would help if you looked for a CNC router that offers the best value for money, without sacrificing quality or performance.
Service and Support
Buying a CNC router is not a one-time transaction. You may need ongoing support and service from the seller or manufacturer, such as training, troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, etc. You should look for a CNC router with reliable and accessible support and service, preferably from a local or reputable company. You should also check the warranty and guarantee terms of your machine before purchasing.
Cutting Service
If you don’t have the space, time, or skills to operate a CNC router yourself, you can still benefit from its advantages by using a cutting service. A cutting service is a company that can cut, shape, drill, mill, surface, and etch materials for you using their own CNC routers. You can send them your design files and specifications, and they will deliver the finished parts to you. This can save you a lot of hassle and money in the long run.
